Why RuRu Hair

Why RuRu Hair

RuRu Hair Extensions offers only the best authentic human hair extensions sourced directly
from its source countries. We are not just a hair company, every purchase helps RURU
children across England, who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment and cannot
afford Human hair wigs.
RuRu Hair is a London based Social enterprise founded in 2019 by Ruth Odusanya Daniel, in
tribute to her cousin Christy Monono who passed away from breast cancer aged 25. Christy
like many women and children undergoing Chemotherapy loved and considered her hair to
be her beauty and was traumatised by the loss of her locks. Currently, the free wig options
available on the NHS are limited to fake synthetic wigs, with no options for women or
children of colour.
Ruth Odusanya Daniel said: ‘’My fascination with wigs began in 2012 when I started to
lose my hair due to the medication I was taking after my second liver transplant. It wasn’t
until the 10-year anniversary of my cousin’s death to breast cancer (which was a result of a
previous diagnosis of leukaemia), that I decided in tribute to her, I needed to do something
about the lack of human hair wigs available to black women and children. It was at this point
RuRu Hair was born. For a woman or child who is African, Caribbean or mixed race with
kinky curly hair, the wigs which are currently available on the NHS are unfortunately a
constant reminder to patient’s just how much they have lost. Being provided wigs which are
kinky curly or a similar hair texture to their hair synthetic or otherwise, would be more of a
positive experience for black women and children who need a wig due to hair loss from
illness. Having access to a good quality human hair wig, is part of the healing process for
women and children undergoing cancer treatment. I want to do what I can to support that
process by providing free wigs to women and children who otherwise cannot afford it.’’
The cost of a human wig can be very expensive roughly £200-£1500, which many patients
cannot afford; or do not qualify to get a human hair wig through the NHS or any cancer
charity. RuRu hair is able to offer a free human hair service by selling Premium human hair
weft bundles, closures, frontals and lace wigs. 100% of profits are then used to provide wigs
for woman and children with hair loss due to cancer treatment.
RuRu Hair will work with blood cancer charity ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust)
to spread awareness to those potentially in need of the wig service, whilst simultaneously
raising awareness on the importance of black and ethnic minorities joining the blood, stem
cell and organ register.
ACLT co-founder Beverley De-Gale said:
“The free wig service RuRu hair are offering to individuals from the community who have
lost their hair due to lifesaving treatment is just so incredibly heart-warming. ACLT are
thrilled to support its founder Ruth, in her efforts to ensure patients feel happy and confident
whilst on their road of recovery to good health. We are in awe of Ruth’s vision and support
her and the company wholeheartedly.”
RuRu Hair only provides free human hair wigs, made to measure or ready made to Women and
children who live in England and are unable to afford or access free human hair wigs from anywhere else.
